Training independent facilitators to serve clients of the Lanterman Regional Center

Lanterman Regional Center is offering scholarships to Guidelight Group's Essential Independent Facilitator Training Program for those who plan to serve clients in Lanterman Regional Center's catchment area.

Priority given to individuals residing in and around the Lanterman Regional Center catchment area and who can meet the diverse linguistic and cultural needs of the community, with an emphasis on Spanish and Armenian speaking individuals.

About the Program:

The goal of this scholarship is to increase the number of capable independent facilitators committed to serving individuals in the Lanterman Regional Center catchment area, particularly those in underserved communities. Recipients of the Lanterman Regional Center scholarship will have access to all of the components of Guidelight Group's standard training program, including:

  • 16+ hours of virtual instruction

  • 8 live skill-building workshops (offered virtually)

  • Bi-weekly office hours

  • 3 individual coaching sessions

  • 2 group coaching sessions

  • Vast downloadable resource library

  • Customized tools and templates

  • Our incredible and collaborative alumni community

PLUS, recipients will attend an additional 2 hour training session to introduce them to working with Lanterman Regional Center to lay the foundation for a smooth and collaborative relationship. It will cover the specific processes and expectations for independent facilitators and SDP participants at Lanterman Regional Center, as well as helpful information like who to contact for various needs, how to get paid, and how to connect with local clients.

This training program is offered in English, with supplemental support and follow-along coaching will be available in Armenian and Spanish. Bilingual and multi-lingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Value:

The cost to attend Guidelight Group's Essential Independent Facilitator Training Program is $1,980. Lanterman Regional Center is offering a scholarship of $1,700 per person, which leaves a small out of pocket investment of $280 per person.

 

For those who are not able to make the out-of-pocket investment, full scholarships will be considered on a case-by-case basis. You can indicate your need for a full scholarship on the application.

Wednesdays 3:30-5:00 p.m. OR 

Thursdays 12:00-1:30 p.m.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY JANUARY 21, 2025.

Applicants can expect to be updated on their acceptance status by January 24, 2025.

Eligibility:

The program is intended for people who already have a solid understanding of the Self-Determination Program and the role of an independent facilitator, and who are looking for extra training and support to get their practice off the ground.
 

Scholarship recipients must commit to serving the diverse linguistic and cultural needs of the Frank D. Lanterman regional Center Community, with an emphasis on Spanish and Armenian languages. Additional support and follow-along coaching will be provided in both Spanish and Armenian. 

Applicants must complete the online scholarship application to be considered.

Requirements:

  • Ability to complete 2 hours of self-paced online learning each week, plus 1-2 hours of homework.

  • Ability to attend 1.5 hour workshop sessions each week for 8 weeks (1 absence is permitted).

  • Ability to access sessions via Zoom and course materials via an online learning platform.

  • Ability to respectfully participate in virtual workshops and collaborate with classmates.

  • Ability to read and understand official regional center documents and simple spreadsheets in English.

  • Willingness to provide General Self-Directed Supports under service code 099 or PDS 099, to support people to transition into the Self-Determination Program (paid at approximately $50/hour).

  • Commitment to serving disparity groups in their work as an independent facilitator.

Priority will be given to applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Live within (or near) the Lanterman Regional Center catchment area

  • Represent an underserved, minority, BiPOC community

  • Speak a language other than English (Spanish or Armenian strongly desired)

Guidelight Group and Lanterman Regional Center reserve the right not to select an applicant for the scholarship if, in its determination, the applicant is not qualified for or sufficiently responsive to the scholarship intent. 

​
